NYC Field Trip

Life gets busy and I find that I am either sitting in front of my computer or on the road moving to and from client appointments. When the opportunity arrives to get out of the house and take a weekend trip I jump! With two of our children living in New York City, we have good incentive to visit. So, this past weekend we ventured to the city in all its finest Christmas decor and it was BUSY, bustling with shoppers, visitors and locals. The energy of the city never ceases to amaze me.

Trying not to make my family crazy, I do find ways to sneak in little design inspirations whenever I visit. This last trip was no different, I’m happy to share this beautiful hidden design gem in the hopes that it encourages you to find the tucked away places of beauty amongst the bustle of this season.

Tucked away on the Garden level of townhouse on a quiet little street in the West Village you will find Eerdmans. I began following the shop online for its artisan offers, it’s part gallery, part shop, part interior design advisors - all of it so unique. The shop and their story is all things I love - collected, intuitive and vibrant and visiting in person was more than I could have asked for. They are currently hosting their Holiday Bazaar showcasing a wide array of artists - get there before it closes! The Eerdmans space was alive with such artistic and handmade items it was a feast for the eyes and a designers dream.

These lamps and the little chest, by @cressidabell, were even better in person!

Emily Evans Eerdmans, the owner of the shop is a journalist and friend of the late Mario Buatta, she just published a wonderful book - Mario Buatta - Anatomy of a Decorator. I would say Mario, who had a very unique and larger than life personality, would love that his image is tucked among the tropics in the middle of NYC!

Black Fridays and Cyber Monday’s are all the rage during this season for quick and best price shopping, but I promise, if you take the time to wander among beautiful things, handcrafted things you will shift your eye, learn about someone or something new and perhaps spark a little creativity of your own.

Thank you Emily, for Eerdmans and welcoming us in your home and boutique for a magical start to our day and endless inspiration!

Let’s Design for good,

Kim
