Make an Impact with Painted Trim and Ceilings!
Happy June! It seems there is a lot of painting going on!! The coronavirus has had us all sitting at home staring at our walls a little more than usual, coupled with some time on our hands, painting is one of the easiest, least expensive and most gratifying upgrades you can make in your home.
If you decide to tackle a painting project I want to share a look with you that I think you will find refreshing and will update your home in a wink!
Paint your trim to match your wall color, whether you go bold as I am showing you here or keeping it neutral. When you keep the same color, the feel is cohesive and creates a more soothing feel. When you paint your crown molding the same color as your walls it helps your ceilings feel taller.
Speaking of ceilings … notice this one has a light gold metallic that warms the punch of red. When you want a beautifully saturated glossy color I LOVE Fine Paints of Europe
Another trick that creates visual interest is to keep the same color, but change the finish. In this bedroom the window trim, closet trim and doors are in a gloss finish, while the walls are in eggshell. It gives definition without creating too much contrast. The ceiling color balances the moody walls and reflects the natural light keeping it from feeling cavelike … instead like a wonderful cocoon! This Sherwin Williams color is one of my favorite mood colors.
If you are nervous to try this out in a big space, start small … this little pantry took on a new life of energy with everything painted the same bold green (because this was a showhouse, I couldn’t paint the door trim, too bad … it would have rocked!!!)
Once again, look up … that Fifth Wall - the ceiling - is another great small space adventure!! I couldn’t be more thrilled how Pauline made this ceiling bloom! A place for a fun color, pattern or wallpaper. Life is short, make it fun!
I hope I have inspired you to do something a little daring with paint in your home. The absolute beauty of paint is that it can be painted over if you hate it!!
Get those paint brushes out and go for it!
