Hello Sunshine!

2021 started out a little slow, if you are like me I somehow thought Jan 1 would be an immediate change from 2020 … well that didn’t quite happen, but it is truly feeling like we are moving forward now and with the days starting to get longer, the sun shining brighter, I have a definite mindset shift! I hope you are feeling it too! And in that same vein let’s talk about the color yellow - is there any color happier than yellow? Seriously, these lemons are like sunshine in a bowl!

Several years ago I worked with a client who was moving into a condo, downsizing from the home where her children grew up she wanted to make her home happy so she wanted to paint it yellow. When she went to select her paint the sales clerk told her, “I wouldn’t go with yellow, it’s not popular and you will end up hating it.” She went home without paint and stared at her white walls, wishing they were yellow. Then came to KMI and I immediately poo-pooed that whole idea of not using yellow - I am a huge proponent of doing what makes YOU happy! Your home should reflect who you are and KMI will always work with you to pick the “right” color for YOU and YOUR goals. You can read more about that here.

When designing the Peckham Hill Project I wanted to create a room full of warmth and sunshine. I wanted to bring in the brightness of the sun year round no matter the weather outside. You can see the blogpost about my inspiration here. The last component was this glorious San Pedro Morning yellow that I painted on the ceiling. Sadly my professional photos never showed the outcome, but here is an in progress shot for you.

I am not kidding you, every morning when I walked in, even on the dreariest winter days, I felt like the sun was shining on me. Choosing paint colors isn’t just about the right “color” or what’s trendy, it’s about setting the mood and the energy that you want to receive. Choose a color because it resonates with you, choose a color that brings an energy or feeling you want in your life. Our homes are a reflection of ourselves. If you aren’t certain how to go about this, or have been told “you won’t like it” about a color and are stuck - let us know. KMI loves to guide color conversations!

After a lot of experience with different yellows as the ‘star’ in a room and as an accent, here are our favorite yellows:
