Sometimes it IS about the Curtains!

I listened to a motivational podcast recently, one that I listen to quite a bit. In discussing what makes you happy - curtains were thrown under the bus! I have to say I took this a little too personally (and maybe too literally). Yes, to find happiness it comes from within, not by material things or covering up things, we all know this. I know the statement was made in a more esoteric manner but the idea that curtains were used in the negative really made me think because I do find happiness in curtains! I started my business making window treatments, I loved the creation and the feel of the fabrics. Curtains aren’t just for blocking out but they can welcome in and showcase a holistic design. Different fabrics can evoke different feelings and in my humble opinion are an integral part of your design!  So I thought it might calm you as well if I shared some of my favorite window treatment moments.

A simple roman shade was given a major personality with this Schumacher band trim! I would smile every time I walked into this room and spotted those perfect little yellow flowers and blue vines that play off that wallpaper ever so perfectly!

Can you even imagine sitting in this space without these gorgeous Ralph Lauren drapes? They not only frame the outside so beautifully but they add a coziness and welcoming nature to that little nook. I would want to run to that comfy chair every afternoon with a glass of wine and either a group of friends or a good book.  That’s my idea of happiness!

Curtains can also create a sense of calm. The monochromatic design in this room is so soothing, but without the curtains it would fall flat. They add a much needed variation both visually and texturally. You can almost feel the breeze of the outdoors with the way they drape. And imagine the feeling dining here, being wrapped in a pool of blues with a hug from the curtains! Serenity and joy abounds!

There are definitely moments when curtains aren’t necessary and I’ll embrace those windows too!  But please, don’t let anyone tell you it is not about the curtains! Thank you for letting me take the stand for my favorite design feature!
