Best of the Seacoast Winner!
Can you believe I am writing a post thanking you for your “votes”, I know we’ve all had our fill of this lately…HOWEVER...I am so excited, in awe and thankful for all of you who voted for me in the 2020 Best of the Seacoast Awards. I won first place in the Interior Design category and I am overflowing with gratitude.
You cannot imagine how exciting this is for me…and I mean this so sincerely. Three years ago when our youngest graduated, Don and I completely uprooted and moved to the New Hampshire Seacoast. We had been driving up to the region for years thinking…some day. And then that day came, and we did it!
While I knew it was the right thing for us personally, I was worried about my business. Truly. I have been blessed to have wonderful clients in the Metrowest area of Boston since I founded Kim Macumber Interiors almost 15 years ago. So many of my clients have come through word of mouth. Since we were moving a bit further away from the Boston region I had lots of doubts - what if we move and they all forget about me? Or they don’t want to hire me because I am no longer “in town?” KMI is more than a business, it’s a passion for me and I didn’t want to lose all that I had built and what KMI had become. I worried about uprooting and having to start all over again. As many business owners can relate - the self doubt can be overwhelming at times.
However, I do believe if you go with your heart things work out, and work out they have. My wonderful clients, my community, my network - YOU - moved me through this. The word of mouth has continued and KMI has grown and thrived. One of my sweetest clients in Wellesley (you know who you are) referred me to her sister-in-law, who quite coincidentally lives 5 minutes from our new home in New Hampshire! And then she referred me to another local friend, who I am thrilled to be working with. Next a design friend introduced me to a woman that immediately brought me into her circle of friends and relationships. She had just joined a new networking group, the Portsmouth Chapter of the Womens’ Business League and invited me to visit. I was immediately welcomed by this group and have actively engaged ever since. The women I have the pleasure of knowing are professional, strong and engaged business leaders. Together we work to create a wholly encouraging community whose goal is to raise us all up. I cannot express how wonderful it is to be surrounded by this type of community as I transition my life and business to the Seacoast region. I could never begin to imagine that after a short 3 years of being on the Seacoast that I could possibly “win” this recognition.
I thank you all…for you are the reason that I have been able to continue my passion for interior design and creating spaces that nurture and inspire.
In celebration of and in gratitude for this win and for my incredible Seacoast community I want to pay it forward to the wonderful nonprofit that I had the chance to meet because of the Womens’ Business League - Seacoast Soul Models. During this season of gratitude for every one-hour consultation, KMI will be donating $100 of our fee to Soul Models to support their valuable mission of connecting young girls with mentors that encourage leadership, community and confidence, which during this time of remote learning has become all the more vital.
Let’s keep designing for good!
